DeSoto County Deputy Injured In Pursuit In Memphis

According to WMC, a DeSoto County deputy was hurt in a pursuit that ended in a crash in Memphis.

Police said that some of the suspects involved in the chase are still on the run.

Chief Deputy Justin Smith said that the chase started when officers tried to perform a routine traffic stop for minor offenses on Highway 61 near Church Road.

The vehicle, with multiple people inside, sped away beginning the chase going northbound on Highway 61.

A deputy set up stop sticks near Goodman Road and Highway 61. When the suspects saw the deputy on the side of the road, they tried to run him over.

WMC reports the suspects kept driving northbound into Memphis. They ended up losing a tire and crashing at South Third Street just south of West Holmes Road.

Deputy Smith said there were at least four people who ran from the wrecked car and pointed rifles at the deputies. They ran into woods nearby and fired several shots.

DeSoto County Deputies and Memphis Police are still searching for these suspects.

One person was taken into custody so far.
