The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department reported a successful visibility campaign over the July 4th holiday weekend.

Approximately 48 narcotics, DUI, and fugitive arrests were made over the 4th of July holiday weekend by DeSoto County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Whiskey Unit.

Along with other departments around the state, DCSD participated in the NHTSA High Visibility Enforcement and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, as part of the Mississippi Occupant Protection Task Force and Mississippi Impaired Driving Task Force.

Deputies conducted high visibility saturation patrols and safety checkpoints at various locations throughout unincorporated DeSoto County and also within the incorporated areas of the county. During the saturation patrols and safety checkpoints, numerous impaired drivers were taken off the roadways helping keep DeSoto County travelers and citizens safe, the department announced on Facebook.

“With the assistance of local Municipal agencies and the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Whiskey Unit and DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department strive to keep DeSoto County roads safe,” the post reads.
