According to Paul Holley, legal counsel and spokesman for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, a child who went missing and was found in a local pond Monday night has died.

On Monday night, Holley said an 11-year-old boy was reported missing at a pond near the reservoir. After a short search, deputies and a neighbor found the child and were able to get him out of the water.

The rescuers began CPR, which continued until the ambulance arrived on scene, and Holley said the child was transported to the hospital as of about 9 pm.

The name of the child has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.
