Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade held a press conference to announce several updates to the Jackson Police Department.
Assistant Chief Over Administration Appointed:
He first appointed the former Chief of the Gluckstadt Police Department, Vincent Grizzell, as the new assistant chief over administration for JPD.
Grizzel has served as a deputy chief with the Jackson Police Department for five years and has been with the department for a total of 30 years.
Chief Wade said that he got rid of one Deputy Chief position so he could afford to hire Assistant Chief Grizzell. Instead of four Deputy Chiefs, the department will now have three.
Increase In Officers In The Department:
There are now 245 sworn employees of the Jackson Police Department. That is an increase of 24 new employees/officers.
Chief Wade stated,
“By your returning home, it shows that you believe in my leadership. It shows that you believe in the city of Jackson… the Jackson Police Department and the direction of the Jackson Police Department.”
There are many changes coming to the department with the appointment of the new Jackson Police Chief.
Pay Increase For Officers:
He said that officers will be returning to 8-hour shifts and they will now receive a base pay of $48,000. This is a significant increase. They will also be paid for working overtime again.
This is a way for citizens to report non-urgent crimes such as property crimes and some misdemeanors. This is self-reporting crimes For example, if your hub cap was stolen two weeks ago, you can enter a report online and then get a case number emailed to you.
Chief Wade said,
“That is a game changer for us. This will reduce our calls for service and allow us to have better customer service to our citizens. The brainchild is the Assistant Chief of Jackson Police”.
