Canton man convicted of second degree murder and drug trafficking

A man pleaded guilty to second degree murder and trafficking in controlled substances and was sentenced to serve thirty years without the possibility of early release or parole for each count.

On May 7, 2021 officers were called to a Canton hotel for a report of a deceased woman in a room. Takoria “LuLu” Brown, 38, had been shot multiple times and was discovered by hotel cleaning staff. When officers arrived at the hotel room, they discovered that the room had been rented by Johnnie Harris, Jr. Surveillance tapes also showed Harris at the hotel room with Brown that night and leaving alone in the morning.

Brown was never again seen on any surveillance tapes after initially entering the room. After obtaining a search warrant for the hotel room, officers located over 500 pills containing methamphetamine amongst Harris’s belongings that were still in the room.

“We appreciate the work done by the Mississippi Department of Investigations, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the Canton Police Department that allowed our office to obtain a guilty plea in this matter,” Bramlett said. “Ms. Brown’s family is thankful to avoid a trial in this matter and also to see justice for LuLu.”
