Hey Generation Xers and seasoned Millennials, you can cancel that Sirius Radio subscription you got because the alternative music you love can’t be found in one place in the metro.

At noon on Monday, New South Radio, Inc. dba Digio Strategies announced the launch of the very first New Rock Alternative station ever in the city at frequency 93.1 FM & HD2. When you scroll, look for Rock 93.1, Jackson’s Rock Alternative — you’ll know it when you find the music that brings out that rock/alternative nostalgia of bands like Weezer, Linkin Park, Nirvana, Cranberries, and Blink 182 plus new rock from Shinedown, Noah Kahan, Twenty One Pilots and more.

Brand Manager Jay Michaels adds the station to his duties as Brand Manager of CHR Y101 and AC Mix 98.7 as of Monday, and will anchor the morning drive starting in October.

“To have the opportunity to launch the very first ROCK/ALTERNATIVE station in Jackson is such a huge game changer,” said Michaels. “The support from owner Clay Holladay, Market Manager Kelly Crocker and Operations Manager Jan Michaels and the team has been incredible.  We are locally owned and programmed with all the media tools, air talent, and work environment to have a wildly successful station.”

For now, Rock 93.1 nonstop for 5,000 songs in a row until October 1, at which point the DJ lineup of Michaels, Therese Apel, and Adam Schraf will take to the airwaves.

“This is the music I really love, and we are thrilled to add this station to our growing cluster,” said General Manager Kelly Crocker. “It will bring a truly unique audience to our already large listenership. We are passionate about executing GREAT live and local radio and this new addition enhances our ability to connect with our community.”

Operations Manager Jan Michaels (no relation to Jay Michaels) pointed out that the concentrated sounds of the bands to be featured on Rock 93.1 can’t be found on any one station anywhere in Central Mississippi.

“There was a huge void in the Jackson market for this format and we have the right staff in place now to pull off this endeavor,” she said. “We are so fired up about launching Rock 93.1 and bringing this station to Rock/Alt fans in Central Mississippi. Plus, we’re streaming on our new app and new website at rock931jackson.com. Download the app and give it a listen.”

Jay Michaels has previously programmed Rock/Alternative and other formats for many years at The EDGE in Dallas as well as stations in Austin, Houston, Norfolk and Los Angeles.
