A 14-year-old boy has been found shot in the head in an intersection in Hazlehurst.

Coroner Ellis Stuart said authorities got a call of gunshots on Maple Street, and a call then came in to Copiah County Emergency Operations Center that there was a body in the intersection of Maple Street and Longwood.

When they arrived, police found 14-year-old Jamarion Williams lying dead in the street with a gunshot wound to his head.

His body was taken to Mississippi Mortuary, Stuart said, to await transport to the Mississippi Medical Examiner’s office.

Sources said the boy’s family had just moved to Hazlehurst from Crystal Springs, and that recently his house had been shot into.

The last homicide in Hazlehurst was 20-year-old Charles Stewart. He was found by his mother, who was a responding police officer on the scene, around 2 a.m. January 3 on Larkin Street with a gunshot wound to the head.
