Firefighters are on the scene of a large fire in Jackson on Highway 80 near Gallatin Street.

The burning structure, according to Jackson Fire Department Assistant Chief Patrick Armon, is in the building behind the old General Electric building. Firefighters are currently on scene battling the blaze.

Armon said when units arrived there was heavy black smoke showing. It’s unclear if there were people in the building, he said, since the response is still in its early stages.

Seven units are on scene currently, and Armon said there’s always a chance more could be called out.

The smoke could be seen all over the Jackson area, according to people who are contacting us about the blaze.

This is a developing story. We will keep you updated.
