Here is proof that it is never too late!

Ellouise Lewis, aged 90, from Gulfport, received her honorary GED certificate after seven decades. A graduation ceremony was held at her nursing home.

Lewis was in the 10th grade when she dropped out of high school. She always said she wished she would have stayed and finished high school.

The staff at the Gulfport Care Center helped make her wish come true. They reached out to Wells of South Gate, a religious organization and learning center that conducts adult classes. While the center does not give out official GEDs, the honorary GED is a symbol of her knowledge and commitment to completing the courses.

“It’s a blessing to me and to my coworkers to be able to make this happen,” said Activity Director Lisa Perdue.

“When they told me here that I could get my GED, I was happy about it,” Lewis told WLOX. “I’m still happy.”
