88-Year-Old Civil Rights Activist Dies In Jackson House Fire

According to WLBT, one person was killed in a house fire in Jackson Monday night.

The house is located in the 5000 block of Inwood Drive.

The fire broke out around 9:00 p.m. Monday, and investigators arrived on the scene around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones tweeted saying,

Saddened to hear the news regarding the passing of Mrs. Ineva May-Pittman due to a house fire last night. She was the epitome of a leader in civil and human rights throughout our community, state and country. May God be with her family and the many lives she touched. pic.twitter.com/KZnta7d8LI
