Teenage girl killed in Jackson shooting, police in the hunt for suspects

Police are in Jackson on the hunt for a suspect or suspects they say fired shots into a car, killing a teenage girl and injuring her mother.

Authorities say the shooting took place at Ellis Avenue Plaza Thursday afternoon.

WLBT is reporting shots were fired on Ellis Avenue earlier Thursday at a white Honda Accord. A woman and her 18-year-old daughter were running errands when shots running out and bullets riddled their vehicle.

A man on the scene told WLBT that the victims were his wife and daughter. He said his daughter was killed in the shooting. His wife, he said, was shot once in the leg.

The car believed to have contained the shooters was found shortly afterwards on Combs Avenue. The suspects were gone, but authorities say The suspects are believed to be in that area.

Rankin County K9 officers have been called to the scene to help find the suspects.
