Claiborne County deputies arrest man in Thursday night homicide

The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department has a man in custody after police say he is the suspect in a homicide.

According to authorities, deputies responded to a shots fired call on Highway 18 in Hermanville around 11:47 p.m. Dec. 30.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He was later identified as 43-year-old Morques Johnson who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carl Lee Wells, the alleged suspect, was located at his home where he was taken into custody. Wells is being charged with 1st degree murder and is currently being held without bond.

This case has been bound over to the Grand Jury.
