Ridgeland firefighters work to free a driver trapped in his vehicle underneath a gasoline tanker on I-55 Tuesday.

The driver of a car that ran underneath a tanker truck on I-55 Tuesday was left with only minor injuries, according to authorities.

Ridgeland Fire Department posted photos of the wreck that showed a small 2-door vehicle underneath the tanker, as well as once it has been extracted.

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Ladder 4, and Rescue 4 responded and found a car pinned under a tanker truck carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline with the driver entrapped.

Firefighters said after a very tedious extrication, the driver was removed and taken to the hospital. The fact that he was only slightly injured is being called “miraculous” by first responders on the scene.

Other responding agencies included Ridgeland Police Department, Jackson Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Pafford Ambulance, and Wards Heavy Wrecker Service.
