Jackson police officers, Hinds County sheriff’s deputies, along with agents with Homeland Security and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics saturated the Washington addition area Tuesday night, WAPT reports.

Deputy Chief Deric Hearn said the operation was in response to violent crime in that area.

Officers saw several people in the 1600 block of Danvers Street, who took off running toward a wooded area at Highway 80 and Valley Street, Hearn said. Officers chased them and detained six people who Hearn said were facing felony charges.

Among those were Tyrell Snell and Yaquan Newell, pictured, both of whom had warrants for murder. Snell and Newell are charged in connection with the Dec. 1 death of Lee Marvin Williams on Prentiss and West Capitol streets.

“We know that these two individuals were murder suspects,” Chief James Davis said. “One of these individuals was out on bond. That was a big success to get these dangerous individuals off the streets.”

Members of the task force have made 35 felony arrests since the operation began in September, police officials said.
