Ruby Wilkerson, a teacher at The Kids’ World Center in Madison County, was arrested and charged with child abuse on Tuesday.
The charges stem from an incident that happened at the daycare center last month.
Katorra Lewis, the child’s mother, says surveillance video shows Wilkerson hitting the child three times, leaving bruising around the child’s eye.
The surveillance footage also showed her toddler, Aubree, covering her head as soon as the teacher walked in the room, Lewis said, causing her to wonder if this has happened before.
Wilkerson was not given a bond, pending her appearance in court.
