Shooting in Jackson leaves man dead, 13-year-old boy injured

Jackson Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a 13-year-old boy hospitalized with gunshot wounds in both legs.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Friday evening in the 500 block of Derrick Street.

Police say a man was shot twice and died of his injuries at the scene. His identity is unknown at this time. A semi-automatic rifle was found lying next to the body and approximately nine shell casings were found in the street.

A 13 year old boy was also shot in both legs during the incident. He was transported to a local hospital by AMR and is listed in as stable, though it’s unclear in what condition.
