Jackson police confirmed the arrest of JaVarus Daqain Williams, 21, in connection with the death of Jadarius Bracey, 23.

The fatal shooting occurred Wednesday on Overstreet Avenue.

WAPT reports that two Jackson police detectives were at The Highlands in Pearl when the suspect came down the stairs of a mobile home carrying a gun. Greg Flynn, a spokesman for the city of Pearl, said the detectives took the man into custody and then contacted Pearl police for assistance.

The shooting likely began with an argument at a nearby gas station. Jackson Police Department public information Officer Sam Brown said, “Preliminary indications suggest that it started the altercation and it stemmed from there to (Overstreet Avenue).”

Witnesses told police that a man in a gray Chevrolet Cobalt fired several shots at the victim before driving off. No one else was injured, Brown said.
