Multi-Agency Response Leads to Tuesday Arrests in West Jackson

A large presence of federal agents swarmed the scene last night on and around Medgar Evers Boulevard.

According to authorities, a Homeland Security Investigations team was doing surveillance and came across two carjacking suspects. A multi-agency response followed, including Jackson police officers and Rankin County sheriff’s deputies. Rankin county brought in a K9 unit to track the suspects as well.

“Those guys tried to run. They caught two, two bailed off in this block of woods back here. They contacted us in Rankin County to bring out some tracking dogs because they knew they had them in the wooded area, so that’s how we got involved,” said Deputy Chris Picou, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office. “We put one of our dogs on the ground, you saw it, it wasn’t 15 minutes and we had both of them in custody.”

Four people were eventually taken into custody. Authorities have not released the names of the suspects, and whether there will be charges.
