Baby killed in first of 2 wrecks on Highway 18 in Hinds County Thursday morning

A baby was killed in a crash on Highway 18 in Hinds County Thursday morning according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 9:30 a.m. on Highway 18 near Pentecostal Drive. Three others were taken to the hospital with injuries after a second accident was caused when a woman swerved to avoid the first.

Trooper Ron Bosarge said a gray 2013 Nissan Maxima was traveling westbound and collided with a silver 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.

The other wreck occurred when a driver swerved to avoid the first crash in her white 2011 Chevrolet Impala. Bosarge said she lost control of her car and crossed the median, colliding with a gray 2011 Chevrolet Impala.

According to Bosarge, three people were transported by ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with injuries. A fourth driver was not transported.

An infant passenger of the Nissan Maxima died at the scene. Bosarge said the infant was in a child restraint seat at the time of the crash.
