Search continues for driver who wrecked after pursuit with Jones County deputies

Authorities in Jones County are looking for a driver who fled on foot after wrecking his vehicle in a police pursuit.

Jones County deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint on Highway 11 at the intersection of New Hope Road between Ellisville and Moselle when a driver approached the checkpoint and then sped away.

Deputies chased the Nissan Altima, which ultimately crashed on New Hope Road. The unidentified driver ran into the woods after the crash, police said, but so far a search of the area and overnight patrols did not locate the driver. He is now wanted for felony fleeing.

The car that crashed is registered to an individual from Greene County, according to a release. Mail found in the vehicle was for an individual from Ellisville. The heavily damaged vehicle was towed from the scene as efforts continue to locate the wanted driver. So far the only description that has been given is that he is a black male.

No JCSD personnel were injured or patrol cruisers damaged in the incident.
