A man was injured Tuesday night after leading police on a foot chase in Simpson County.
Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins said in a release that Edgar Boyd Farmer was wanted in Florida on multiple felony warrants and had for some reason fled into a wooded area prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
Simpson County and Mendenhall called Rankin County K-9 units to assist in the search, and they tracked Farmer and found him in the woods just off Green Avenue.
As deputies approached, Farmer pulled a weapon and was shot by a Simpson County deputy.
Authorities began first aid and the suspect was transported to a local hospital.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation now has the case, which is routine in officer-involved shootings.
