A man reportedly took Jones County law enforcement on a chase that lasted around 30 miles throughout the county.

The twist? He was on an ATV that police say was stolen.

According to WDAM’s Eddie Robertson, the owner of the ATV said he believes it was stolen from his home last Friday. On Tuesday, Constable Danny Gibson got a tip that the ATV had been spotted.

Gibson tried to approach the driver of the ATV, but he took off with Gibson in pursuit. Soon they were joined by deputies, who were able to out-speed the ATV, but the driver was attempting to lose his pursuers by taking the 4-wheeler off the road.

WDAM reports that the 33-year-old driver Sam Boutwell ended up crashing on a dead end road near Ellisville. He was charged with grand larceny, felony fleeing, and resisting arrest. He is believed to have been involved in other crimes in the Soso-Big Creek Road area as well as other parts of the county, officials said.

Boutwell is currently in the Jones County jail awaiting his initial appearance.

If you’ve been a victim of a crime in that area, authorities ask that you contact the Jones County Sheriff’s office at (601) 425-3147.
