A convicted felon was taken into custody on drug and gun charges in Hattiesburg late last week.

On Thursday, the Hattiesburg Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics arrested a Ashton Dantzler, 32, of Purvis, near 4th Street and 25th Avenue after he attempted to flee a traffic stop.

Officers seized a weapon, marijuana, oxycodone, and $11,295 during the arrest.

Dantzler was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance (Oxycodone), and as a fugitive with active warrants from another jurisdiction.
