Jones County rescuers prepare to search the Leaf River on reports of a second homicide victim

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is searching the Leaf River again near where the body of Brittany Nicole Holifield was found last week.

A release from the department said they had received tips about a possible second victim who was reportedly murdered and dropped into the Leaf River around the same time as Holifield.

Authorities say this information is unconfirmed and callers who have reported this have not been able to provide a name. Deputies also do not have any missing persons reports.

“However, we are conducting underwater scuba diving operations, surface water searches, and bank searches,” the statement reads.

Deputies captured murder suspect Marty Breazeale in a pine thicket overnight Tuesday after responding to a suspicious person complaint near Bok Homa casino. He is accused in Holifield’s death.

On the scene are the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, the Jones County Search and Recovery Dive Team, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and the Jones County Emergency Management Agency.
