Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Tupelo Police stopped a vehicle for careless driving on North Gloster at Blair.

As officers were talking with suspect, Joseph Herndon, 44, of Saltillo, at his vehicle window, he placed the white Toyota Camry in drive and fled.

Herndon fled west on West Main. Tire deflation spikes were successfully used in the area of West Main and Natchez Trace causing Herndon to slow his flight. Herndon did not stop however and continued west into Pontotoc County until the vehicle stopped in the area of the Longview Exit in Pontotoc County.

Herndon was taken into custody and transported to LSO where he was medically cleared and incarcerated. There was no one else in the vehicle.

Tupelo Detectives have reviewed the evidence charged Herndon with felony fleeing. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir set bond at $20,000.
