Report: Seven dead in Jackson in gun violence over the weekend

Six people were shot to death in homicides over the weekend in Jackson, and one turned his gun on himself in a murder suicide.

WLBT is reporting the fatal shooting of Jeremy Hackett, 15, who was killed on West Highland Drive Friday.

Then 18-year-old Venson Mix was shot in the 1500 block of Woody Drive, and died later at Merit Health.

On Saturday, police say Jared Branham fatally shot his wife Carol Butler at Motel 6 along the I-55 North Frontage Road. Branham died at the scene, and Butler later died in the hospital. They were from out of state.

Saturday night brought the death of Deandrez Davis, who was shot to death while travelling Clinton Boulevard. Davis ended up driving into a fence at Windsor Park Apartments. His passenger, who was also shot, is in critical condition.

Earnest Walters died of a fatal gunshot wound at 850 Lindberg Drive Sunday morning, and another person was also shot. Police told WLBT they were going to meet someone.

Ray Lee was killed Sunday night on Ginger Drive while attending a family gathering. Police told WLBT that Lee shot his sister in the leg during a fight and she shot him back. The sister is not being charged.
