An eighteen year old male suffered a graze wound to his arm in a shooting on Thursday night at Lone Oaks Apartments in the Hoy Community of Jones County.

Three teenagers were reportedly in a passenger car which came under gunfire by an unknown shooter in the parking lot by Lone Oaks Building K. Over 20 rounds from a handgun were fired striking three separate vehicles in the parking lot including the vehicle the teenagers were in.

Jones County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the scene and located the wounded teenager in an apartment. He was initially treated by a JCSD tactical medic and later by EMServ Ambulance Service medics once the scene was deemed safe.

The wounded teen declined transport by ambulance to the hospital.

JCSD Investigator Sergeant J.D. Carter responded to the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed the teens and other residents of the apartment complex. The unidentified shooter is still at large.

JCSD is asking anyone with information on the identity of the assailant to call 601-425-3147 or Jones County Crime Stoppers at 601-428-STOP (7867).
