A seventh grader in Jones County was allegedly sexually assaulted on a school bus last week.

The Laurel Leader Call is reporting that the incident occurred April 6. The student was assaulted with a bottle. At least three South Jones students, aged 14 to 17, were alleged to have been involved in the assault on the child. Police say the 17-year-old could be charged as an adult.

Jones County School District authorities say the teens will face punishment from the school as well as the legal system if they’re found guilty.

The three older students booked in to the Jones County Juvenile Detention Center until their hearing. Felony charges are on the table, authorities said.
