Child Recovering After Dog Jumps Fence, Attacks Him In Morton

Morgan Howard

An 11-year-old is recovering after a horrific attack by an adult male Akita in Morton, Mississippi.

The attack happened on Ferris Circle Sunday around 5:30 p.m. when the child was outside playing.

Jaidyn Guy (who goes by JJ) was walking to a neighbor’s house to hang out with one of his friends when the attack took place.

He was walking on the road just a few doors down from his home when an Akita in the backyard of one of the neighbor’s yards jumped the fence and attacked him.

JJ sustained major injuries from the attack. He had bite marks on his arms and hands, but his head was almost unrecognizable after the dogs’ owners finally got him off the child.

His mother, Elizabeth stated,

“This picture doesn’t even do justice of showing how horrible it really is. I can’t post the picture of the back of his head but it’s very bad.”

JJ’s mother said he didn’t have anything in his hands and they are not sure what caused the dog to suddenly attack.

The owners of the dog finally got him off the child and an ambulance was called. The child was rushed to Batson for surgery.

He had a 5-hour surgery on his head and is now recovering.

Morton police also responded to the scene.

Animal Control seized the dog and the dog was eventually put to sleep.

Morton Police Officer Mitchell came back to check on and visit JJ several days after the attack to lift his spirits. He was the responding officer and said he couldn’t stop thinking about the child and wanted to see how he was doing. The family said that meant a lot to them and to Jaidyn.

The family has numerous medical expenses after the attack. If you want to donate to help with the child’s medical bills, you can do so in the following ways:

The community has been so wonderful, according to JJ’s mother. They have supported and loved on them. JJ’s class at school made him a giant card to lift his spirits.
