A weekend stabbing claimed the life of one person and left another fighting for survival, according to Southaven Police Department.

Southaven police said that Sunday around 7:45 a.m., officers were called to the 8300 block of Cedarcrest Drive to check out a report of a stabbing. When they arrived on scene, there were two victims.

One of those victims had already succumbed to their injuries, police said, and the other was transported to Regional One Health Medical Center in critical condition.

The suspect was on the scene and was taken into custody.

Police say the names of those involved in this ongoing investigation are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
