Washington County suspect alerts authorities to Madison County homicide

Therese Apel

A man in Washington County told authorities he killed a relative in Madison County, and Sheriff Randy Tucker has confirmed that someone has been found dead at the address he gave.

Tucker said the man had been involved in some kind of domestic situation in Washington County and appeared to be high and possibly rattled from a beating and he began to tell detectives he had killed his uncle at an address on Haley Creek Drive.

Washington County Sheriff Milton Gaston reached out to Tucker and gave him the information, which prompted Madison County to conduct a welfare check at that address.

Deputies, arriving at the address, found someone dead just inside the back door of the home.

The name of the deceased, as well as the cause and manner of death, have not yet been released. Tucker said authorities are still on the scene of the unfolding scene.

This is a developing story.
