The Pearl Fire Department responded to 9-1-1 calls of a large fire in an eight-unit building at the Grand Apartment Complex on Colony Park Blvd. off Pearson Rd.

The calls came in just after midnight on Monday.

First responding police officers were able to alert and assist residents in evacuating the building.

As firefighters arrived, all four units on the second floor of the building were engulfed in flames.

Due to the size of the fire, all four Pearl Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene and it took nearly two hours to get the blaze under control.

Eight units in the building were destroyed, the four on top burned and the four on the bottom from smoke and water damage.

Two residents had minor injuries from evacuating and were treated and released at the scene. Thankfully there were no other injuries to residents or any Pearl firefighters.
