Tupelo Police have arrested two Memphis women, 19-year-old Terraneika Poplar and 20-year-old Destiney Plummer on charges of human trafficking following an investigation into a report of prostitution at a local motel.

On July 8, officers received information about potential prostitution at a motel within Tupelo city limits. Responding to the scene, they made contact with three individuals in a room. An investigation was initiated, leading to the arrests of Poplar and Plummer.

Tupelo Chief of Police John Quaka stated,

“With the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services, and the Center for Violence Prevention, we were able to make the arrests and rescue a female juvenile at the scene. This is a despicable crime, and TPD will use all available resources to ensure these offenders, or any future offenders, are brought to justice.”

On July 9, Poplar and Plummer appeared in Tupelo Municipal Court, where Judge Willie Allen denied bond for both.

The investigation began with a simple report of possible prostitution. The Tupelo Police Department encourages anyone with information about such crimes or other criminal activities to contact TPD at 662-841-6491, tpdrecords@tupeloms.gov, or Crime Stoppers of North East Mississippi at 1-800-773-TIPS.
