On Friday around 8:23 p.m., Hinds County deputies responded to Brandon Arms Apartments on Highway 467 in Edwards regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that Denarius Hayes, 15, had been shot multiple times and was being transported to River Region Hospital in Vicksburg via private vehicle. He was later transferred to UMMC by air support for his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, Investigators were able to identify a suspect, 17-year-old Raymond Townsend, as the shooter. He was arrested and charged as an adult with aggravated assault and is currently being held at the Youth Detention Center.
On Monday evening, around 5:05 p.m., Denarius Hayes succumbed to his injuries at UMMC and was pronounced dead. Raymond Townsend’s charge was then upgraded to murder.
Investigators were also able to identify another suspect, Keith Lee, 20. A warrant was secured for his arrest for the charge of murder. He was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Raymond Detention Center.
