Two Arrested for Allegedly Attempting to Purchase Vehicle with Counterfeit Money in Tupelo

On September 19, officers from the Tupelo Police Department responded to a report of false pretense at Carlock Toyota, located at 882 Cross Creek Drive.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that two individuals had attempted to purchase a vehicle using counterfeit currency.

The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Aaliyah L. Beard, of Belden, and 25-year-old James R. Cole, of Clarksdale, were detained at the scene and interviewed by investigators.

Following further investigation, both Beard and Cole were charged on September 20 with False Pretense and Felony Possession of Counterfeit Currency.

Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Sumner set bond for both suspects at $15,000 each. Their cases will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.

The investigation remains ongoing.
