UPDATE: Tyrell Deonte Bridges was arrested by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday evening.

On the morning of Monday, April 15th, the father of 53-year-old Billy Ray Jones reported to the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office that his son was missing and had not been seen since Saturday night.

Shortly after the report was taken an MDOT worker called the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office and reported that there was a body on the side of Highway 472.

Deputies responded to the scene and discovered that the body was that of 50-year-old Billy Ray Jones.

Matthew Nelson of Georgetown was arrested in connection to Jones death and is currently being held in the Copiah County Detention Center without bond.

Crystal Springs Police Chief Tony Hemphill said that Matthew Nelson was out on bond on a murder charge from September of 2022 with the Crystal Springs Police Department.

What happened in September 2022?

In September of 2022, WLBT reported that Matthew Nelson got into some sort of feud in front of a home during a party on Scott Street. Nelson was arrested for shooting and killing 41-year-old Thomas Kendrick. Matthew Nelson turned himself into police Tuesday morning, following that September, 2022 shooting. He was charged with murder and possession of a firearm of a convicted felon, according to WLBT. His bond was set at $45,000 for the murder charge and $20,000 for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Another man is wanted for Billy Ray Jones murder. He is still on the run and has been identified as 32-year-old Tyrell Deonte Bridges.
