Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade held a press conference after a 12-year-old was shot in Jackson.

The shooting happened on Woodrow Wilson and Powers.

The child was with his uncle, who took him home after he was shot.

The child’s mother then drove him to the hospital for treatment.

Police Chief Wade said thankfully the child was not seriously hurt and is asking the public to help with information if they know anything.

Chief Wade said,

“What is concerning is that I was sitting here last Monday talking about a 3-year-old shot and now I’m sitting here talking about a 12-year-old shot. We have to do better as a community as a city as adults and as leaders to protect our children, to know their whereabouts and to know what’s going on with them, and to know who these individuals are who are perpetrating these crimes against our children and our community.”

If you know anything concerning this shooting, please contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.

“We owe it to our youth to protect them and to find out who cannot deal with conflict. We continue to have a population of individuals who do not know how to deal with conflict. They go from zero to an assault rifle.”
