Suspect Wanted in June Shooting that Left One Dead and Three Injured In Meridian

The Meridian Police Department is actively searching for a suspect linked to a late June shooting that resulted in one death and three injuries.

Acting Captain Dareall Thompson announced that Richard Jones is wanted for murder in connection with the shooting that occurred on June 21, which claimed the life of 24-year-old Jaterius Easley. Jones is also facing three counts of aggravated assault.

According to a statement from Meridian Police Chief Deborah Naylor Young, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 500 block of 53rd Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Easley, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Three additional victims were transported by private vehicle to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts from MPD’s Gang Unit, Special Operations Unit, and detectives.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Jones’ whereabouts to contact the Meridian Police Department or East Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 855-485-8477.
