12:00 p.m. UPDATE:
WDAM reported that the Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported that they responded to an active shooter call Thursday morning.
When they arrived they found an elderly white male on the school campus carrying an airsoft pistol.
Witnesses told them that he fired several shots.
WDAM reports that Sheriff Berkley Hall said, “It doesn’t matter that it was an airsoft gun, It was a weapon…. Airsoft, they make those guns so they look real.”
WDAM said sheriff’s deputies and the Columbia police department arrested the man without incident.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
According to the school district’s website, the school was not in session.
The identity and charges of the suspect have not yet been released.

According to the Marion County School District, Marion County Law Enforcement responded to an Active Shooter at West Marion Primary School this morning.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The school district said they would update the community with more information as it became available.
Nobody was injured and the suspect is now in custody.
