On August 28, deputies conducting a safety checkpoint at County Roads 957 and 995 encountered a vehicle that sped through without stopping, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

The driver, later identified as John William Griffin, fired shots at pursuing deputies as the chase crossed into Colbert County, Alabama.

The Colbert County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit, which ended on a dead-end road where an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Griffin was given medical aid at the scene and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Warrants were issued by the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office, and Griffin was taken into custody on September 9 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after his release from medical care.

On September 10, Griffin was booked into Tishomingo County Jail on charges of felony fleeing, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and five counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement.

His bond was set at $1,000,788 by Justice Court Judge Seth Adams.
