Starkville Police Successfully Rescue 4-Year-Old, Arrest Suspect After Standoff

Early Thursday morning, at 2:22 a.m., the Starkville Police Department responded to reports of a male armed with a knife and handgun fighting a female outside a unit at Brookville Garden Apartments, 305 Everglade Ave.

When officers arrived, the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Tyrez Wade from Hattiesburg, fled into a second-floor apartment and barricaded himself inside with a 4-year-old child.

Adjacent apartments were evacuated, and negotiations with Wade continued for over two hours. SWAT team members eventually forced entry into the apartment, rescued the child, and apprehended Wade without significant injury. No firearms were found at the scene.

Wade has been charged with kidnapping, domestic violence simple assault, and disorderly conduct; failure to comply. He is currently held in the Oktibbeha County Jail.
