The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies announced the release of a sea turtle named Fred that they were able to rehab.
Fred was the first successfully rehabbed cold-stunned sea turtle the organization was able to rescue this past December.
The release of Fred took place in Biloxi across from the Edgewater Mall roughly at the intersection of Eisenhower Drive and Beach Blvd.
He was able to return back to the Gulf to live the rest of his life.
First Lady of Mississippi Elee Reeves and Mayor Fofo Gilich helped with Fred’s release!
Students from Presbyterian Christian School of Hattiesburg and Long Beach Middle School’s Beta Club were in attendance cheering Fred along during his release.
First Lady Reeves posted on social media saying,
“Thank you so much for the wonderful community support that Fred and IMMS received today.”

The institution posted a video of Fred’s release on Facebook.
IMMS is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to education, conservation, research, and rescue along the Gulf coast.
