In the early hours of August 24, Byram police responded to an active burglary at a business in the city around 1:45 a.m., where the suspect was believed to be inside the business still.

Upon arrival, the suspect fled on foot, wearing a black cloth tied around his face. Byram officers briefly pursued the suspect but quickly set up a perimeter and requested assistance from the Richland Police Department K9 Unit.

Within ten minutes, Sergeant Coty Hamilton and K9 Teun arrived to help. Sgt. Hamilton deployed K9 Teun in the direction the suspect was last seen. Shortly after beginning the track, K9 Teun found an article of clothing belonging to the suspect. About 600 yards into the track, the suspect was discovered hiding in the woods and attempted to escape by climbing a six-foot wooden fence. K9 Teun apprehended the suspect by grabbing his pants and shoe at the top of the fence. Despite the suspect’s shoe coming off and his pants tearing, allowing him to make it over the fence, other Byram officers quickly took him into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Jalen Tramon Jordan from Terry, Mississippi. He was arrested and charged with business burglary and resisting arrest.
