Morgan Howard

According to the Raymond Police Department, one person is in custody, and one is still wanted. He should be considered armed and dangerous; police said he had a firearm when he ran.

On Wednesday, the City of Raymond shared on Facebook that they were searching for a man with a firearm.

Around 12:12 p.m., Raymond Police officers chased a car after a traffic stop at East Main Street and Mimosa Street. The car had just picked up students from Hinds Community College and was stopped for causing traffic problems and driving carelessly.

When the car stopped and the driver gave their ID to a police officer, they found marijuana and asked the driver to get out. Instead, the driver sped off recklessly, leading to another chase.

During the chase, a man wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and carrying a backpack jumped out of the car with a weapon. He’s the one they consider dangerous.

The man ran into the woods off Magnolia Street. There were reports that he pointed his gun at someone nearby.

Later, a Hinds County Sheriff’s deputy saw the man outside of Raymond city limits. He ran east into the woods off Dry Grove Street, which is south of the city.

Police and deputies searched for hours but couldn’t find the man.

They caught the driver on Cooper’s Well Street near Palestine Street. Another person in the car was let go.

The names of the people involved haven’t been shared.

This investigation is ongoing. If you know anything about the suspect or have tips, call the Raymond Police Department at 601-857-0515 or the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office at 601-352-1521.
