Several fire departments worked to extinguish an 18-wheeler fire that had the interstate closed down for a few hours Wednesday.

According to Rankin County EOC alerts, I-20 between Exits 70 and 71 near Pelahatchie were closed from around 3 p.m. to around 6:30 p.m.

According to Walters Fire Department, they were joined by Brandon Fire Department, Pelahatchie Fire Department, Evergreen Fire Department, U.S.Air Force/Jackson International Airport Fire Department, Rankin EOC, Pelahatchie Police Department, Rankin Sheriff’s Department, and Pafford EMS to work the scene.

Firefighters say the trailer was loaded with 35,000 to 40,000 lbs. of rubber, which made it especially difficult to extinguish.

No one was injured in the fire or the efforts to extinguish it.
