UPDATE: Children Rescued By Rankin Co. interdiction unit, Citizens After Vehicle Flips Multiple Times, Catches fire

Rankin County Interdiction Deputies William Lindley, John Johnson, and Tony Shack, along with others saved three children from a burning vehicle Thursday afternoon, according to the Rankin County Sheriffs Department and other sources.

According to Capt. Paul Holley, the incident happened on I-20 EB on Thursday.

The Rankin County Interstate Interdiction unit was on a traffic stop on Interstate 20.

A deputy noticed a vehicle behind him lose control, roll over multiple times, then come to rest on its side in the median.

The deputy rushed over to the accident, along with other members of the interdiction unit. Deputies Sentel Easterling, Ronnie Decell, and Madison interdiction officer Lee Sanders also arrived on scene shortly after the wreck.

Citizens stopped to help as well and helped put the fire out that had formed around the engine.

Deputies realized there were three children in the car and immediately began removing them and the other passengers from the vehicle.

All occupants of the car were alert and responsive. The children were all transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures.
