The Philadelphia Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with the recent shootings on Beacon Street, near the Burger King, where approximately 15 vehicles were struck by bullets this week, leaving three people hurt.
In the early morning hours of August 24, officers canvassed the area around Alford Avenue, where the gunshots were heard. After searching one nearby home, police recovered a handgun in the bedroom of 31-year-old Jonathan Salvador, a Mexican national believed to be in the country illegally.
A subsequent daylight search of the residence led officers to discover an AR-style rifle and ammunition near Salvador’s room. Additionally, nearly 30 shell casings matching the rifle were found in a small overgrown lot next to the residence.
Further investigation revealed that Salvador had recently purchased ammunition at a local gun store and had attempted to buy an AR-15 days before the shootings but was denied. Authorities believe Salvador may have been planning additional attacks throughout the city.
Salvador currently faces multiple felony charges, including Attempted Murder, and is being held at the Winston-Choctaw Jail. Police are still investigating whether this incident is related to recent window shootings at local businesses in the downtown area. More updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
