Ole Miss instructor arrested on child enticement charges

UPDATE: Darkhorse Press has confirmed that a man arrested Wednesday on charges of child enticement is an instructor at the University of Mississippi.

His employee page is still active as of 10 a.m. Thursday.

The university did not answer emails asking for comment, but did release a statement to the media.

“The university learned of the arrest late yesterday, and the employee has been placed on leave and is not allowed on campus. The university will provide no further comment at this time.”

ORIGINAL STORY:
An Oxford man has been arrested on charges of enticing a child, according to Oxford Police Department.

A release from OPD states that on Wednesday morning police got a complaint from a citizen about a possible crime, and OPD and the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit opened an investigation.

After conferring with the District Attorney’s Office, police arrested Michael Anthony Smith, 37, of Oxford, on charges of Enticement of a Child.

Smith was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center. He is awaiting bond.

The case is still under investigation. Authorities ask that anyone with information contact police at 662-232-2400.
