One person was killed in a crash in Madison on Thursday.
According to police, the wreck happened at 9:00 a.m. 911 was called due to a gray passenger car driving southbound in the north bound lanes on I-55 in the Madison city limits.
A few minutes later, the Ridgeland Police Department received a second 911 call that gray passenger car had crashed into the trees on the west side of the southbound lanes of travel near mile marker 107.
When emergency teams responded to the scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
Madison Fire Department began rescue efforts and worked to put out the fire. Despite their best efforts, the driver of the car was pronounced deceased.
The driver was the only person inside the vehicle.
Their identity is pending due to the notification of next of kin.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck. The Ridgeland Police Department and Fire Department all helped with the crash.
