On Saturday, June 15, at approximately 7:04 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a deadly multi-vehicle crash on I-20 West near the 21 mile-marker.

The incident involved the following vehicles:

  • A 2006 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by 40-year-old Samantha Mann of Byram, MS, was traveling east on the westbound I-20.
  • A 1998 Freightliner, driven by Heiner Claro of Mexico, was traveling westbound on I-20.
  • A 2023 Freightliner, driven by 68-year-old Wayne Johnson of Metter, GA, was traveling westbound on I-20.
  • A 2023 Ford Maverick, driven by 35-year-old Logan Brumley of Fort Worth, TX, with passenger 62-year-old Anthony Brumley of Keller, TX, was traveling westbound on I-20.
  • A 2019 GMC Acadia, driven by 34-year-old Chelsy Stewart of Columbus, GA, was traveling westbound on I-20.

The crash sequence began when the 2006 Toyota 4-Runner collided with the 1998 Freightliner, causing a chain reaction. The 1998 Freightliner then collided with the 2023 Freightliner. The Toyota 4-Runner subsequently collided with the 2023 Ford Maverick. The 2019 GMC Acadia took evasive action to avoid the collisions and left the roadway, ending up in the median ditch. The Toyota ran off the roadway and became engulfed in flames.

The drivers of both Freightliners and the GMC Acadia were not injured. However, the drivers of the Toyota and the Ford Maverick were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, MS, with unknown injuries.

Anthony Brumley, the passenger of the Ford Maverick, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
